Created or not, I am reminded of a comment our guide made while we drove through a South African game reserve:

"The slowest animal here is twice as fast as the fastest Olympic sprinter."

So, perhaps if the runner can survive the first 5 miles or so they will have a chance at survival. Me? I'll be sure to keep someone slower than me close by!
